The first round of the finals have come and gone with bittersweet news for the Braves.
B Reserve kicked of proceedings for Colac on a wet Saturday, one of only 2 games to go ahead because of the weather.
Corio managed 13 runs to Colac's 7 before rain intervened, past the 105 minute mark needed for an official game, leaving the 2's to face Guild in the next round, the winner to meet Corio in the Grand Final.
A great effort by Colac, who did everything right for the day, Corio getting a few more walks in the end.
Sunday the B Grade took on Corio in a cut throat semi, the loser done of '09.
In what turned out to be a marathon 8 innings the Braves had early chances to put the game away but errors kept the Tigers in the game. The final score 16-15. Maisy, after a less than stunning day with the bat knocked in 2 runs late in the game and masterful coaching moves from Mooka ensured the eventual win. Nat Bannon and B.Del had good days with the bat and Brent H took a pressure catch to seal the day.. Colac now take on a battered Mounties who lowered their colours to Saints later in the day.
The game against Mounties saw a couple of fresh "young" faces in the B Reserve line up. We welcomed 'Derrick' for his first game, and he brought his Major League experience to the plate and right field with a strong showing.

We also had this new face, Muzz Hillman's long lost son perhaps???????

Another bittersweet weekend for the Braves with the B Grade going down to Mounties 10-11 in a thriller, decided by a rowdy home run to the Mounties to claim a date against the Saints next weekend.
(full details to follow)
B Reserve kept Colac hopes of a flag alive with a strong 11-6 win over Guild. The match was a see saw affair for the most part with Colac getting a couple of runds early on and then Monkey hitting a few batters, only to see them erased at second by some vetern catcher efforts from Muzz to Spotty to catch the attempted steals short. Other great plays involved some high class outfield work from Nomad and Tim K, with Nomd running down a fly on the left field warning track to snag a major league back hand catch. Spotty gunned down a runner at home, from second and apart form a missed throw tofirst by Muzz, kept Guild honest and had it at 6 - 6 going into the bottom of the 8th. An in the park home run by Tim K must ahve had Guild thinking back 12 months when Tim D cracked an in the park homer to seal the victory. Tim K's effort was mirrored by Monkey as the next batter, followed by a couple of singles to get two runners on base, ably driven home by a Cuppo shot that possibly turned a 3rd in the park effort into a long double. Cuppo then got to third with a face plant slide, in scoring position for Muzz to drive in the 5th run and ending the game and Guild's season, booking a date with Corio in the Big One.
