The Colac Braves B Reserve traveled to GBC 2 to take on reigning Premiers Corio in the Grand Final of Season 2009.

A warm sunny day with a light NE wind greeted the teams for the mid day first pitch.

Colac started full of confidence and beleif that they coul bring home the win and started very well.   Colac bats cracked from the start and when Mat Warton was hit by a pitch in his 1st at bat, feelings were good for Colac's fortunes.Colackept Corio scoreless for 4 innings and put on runs despite Corio's attempt to take the bat out of Warton's hands, two HBP and 2 BB for the day.   Many fine catches were taken for the day and a lot of good infielding kept the Tigers caged.  A back breaking 2 out RBI double from 1st baseman Lee Monoghan in the middle innings bouyed the Braves further and got the loyal crowd roaring louder.   A lead off triple to Abe Perkins, followed by an RBI triple to Tim Kelly put further nails in the Tiger Coffin.   Despite a pick off of Cuppo to end to top of the 8th, and a "moment" at 2nd by Mat Warton,  late rally by Corio was not enough and Mat Warton took a low catch at 2nd to seal the deal in the 8th inning, giving the Braves their firts 2nd's flag in 18 years.

A strong team effort from all players backing up a strong job on the mound from Josh Hay was the order of the day.   Hayden Johnson had a great day in the field and at the plate, Jason Emmerson got a vital mid inning hit, stole second and eventually scored, Tim Kelly controlled the outfield and hit well, Mark Rice had third base covered, nothing getting by him, Nick Cuthbertson controlled short, only overstretching Leeroy once for the day, Mat Warton had a big day at 2nd, and nothing bar Cuppos loose throw got by the 1st base area.   Murray Hillman caught a great game and ran the bases like a 16 year old and Josh Hay threw a monster game, shutting down the Tiger big bats with relative ease. Abe Perkins came off the bench for an inning and showed the depth of the Braves Club with his triple and outfield arm.

As President of the Club, I could not have been prouder of the boys on Saturday, playing the game with confidence and team spirit I have rearely felt before in any sport or work environment.   Mcuh credit for this goes to Darren Morrissy and Mat Warton as the Coaches, Mark Billing as my VP, and all the players, supporters, parents, wives and or Girlfriendsand every other person conected with our Club.   2009 has been a big year and we now look forward to 2010 to see what we can build on from here.
